BovINEThe 15th International Fair for Animal Production (FIGAN) was held from 21 to 24 September 2021 in Zaragoza, Spain. The fair is held every two years, with the participation of various stakeholders, such as farmers, companies, researchers, students and technicians. During the event, 827 national and international exhibitors and more than 750 live animals of the most important cattle, sheep and horse breeds were presented. In addition, conferences of interest to the livestock sector are presented.
At this fair, the European Projects BovINE (H2020 862590) and DietaPyr2 (Poctefa 144_16) organised a conference on the 21st of September entitled “Innovations in Beef Beef Production”, the full programme can be seeing here. Dietapyr2 is a project that aims to transfer innovations applied to the beef chain from the Pyrenees to enhance value identifiable by consumers.
In the part of the event dedicated to the BovINE project, Virginia Resconi (leader of the thematic area Production Efficiency & Meat Quality) started the conference by presenting BovINE and its importance for the livestock sector. Then, invited speakers from the University of Zaragoza, University of Cordoba, the company Gepisa and CONASPI (Confederación Nacional de Asociaciones de Ganado Pirenaico) presented their innovations and developments and a round table was organised to discuss future perspectives. Finally, in the DietaPyr2 session, researchers linked to this project presented the results obtained.
This conference caught the attention of the television programme Tempero, which belongs to a regional channel in Spain (Aragón TV) and at the same fair, V. Resconi and Pilar Santolaria (coordinator of the DietaPyr2 project), were interviewed. The Tempero programme is dedicated to showing the reality of the rural environment and the agri-food sector in the region.
The interview addressed issues such as the challenges of the livestock sector, the future of precision livestock farming, sustainability and animal welfare, and the trends and promotion of beef for Spain and Europe.

Del 21 al 24 de septiembre de 2021 se celebró la 15ª Feria Internacional para la Producción Animal (FIGAN) en Zaragoza, España. La feria se realiza cada dos años, y cuenta con la participación de diversos actores, como ganaderos, empresas, investigadores, estudiantes y técnicos. Durante el evento se presentaron 827 expositores nacionales e internacionales y más de 750 animales vivos de las más destacadas razas de bovino, ovina y equina. Además, se presentan jornadas de interés para el sector ganadero.
En esa feria, los proyectos Europeos BovINE (Poctefa 144_16) y DietaPyr2 (H2020 862590) organizaron el día 21 de septiembre una jornada titulada “Innovaciones en La Producción de Vacuno de Carne”, cuyo programa completo puede consultarse aquí. Dietapyr2 es un proyecto que tiene como objetivo transferir innovaciones aplicadas a la cadena productiva pirenaica de vacuno para valorizar una carne identificable por el consumidor.
En la parte del programa dedicada al proyecto BovINE, Virginia Resconi (líder del área temática Eficiencia en la Producción & Calidad de Carne) inició la jornada presentando BovINE y su importancia para el sector ganadero. A continuación, ponentes invitados de la Universidad de Zaragoza, Universidad de Córdoba, la empresa Gepisa y CONASPI (Confederación Nacional de Asociaciones de Ganado Pirenaico) presentaron sus innovaciones y desarrollos y se organizó una mesa redonda para discutir entre todos, perspectivas de futuro. Finalmente, en la sesión de DietaPyr2, investigadores vinculados a ese proyecto presentaron los resultados obtenidos.
Esta jornada captó la atención del programa de televisión Tempero que pertenece a una cadena regional de España (Aragón TV) y en la misma feria, V. Resconi y Pilar Santolaria (coordinadora del proyecto DietaPyr2), fueron entrevistadas. De carácter divulgativo, el programa Tempero está dedicado a mostrar la realidad del medio rural y el sector agroalimentario de la región.
La entrevista abordó cuestiones como los retos del sector ganadero, el futuro de la ganadería de precisión, la sostenibilidad y bienestar animal y las tendencias y la promoción de la carne de ternera para España y Europa.
