On Tuesday the 5^th July 2022 Teagasc, an agricultural research, advisory and education body in Ireland held its bi-annual open day for those involved in the beef farming. The event which was attended by many from across the beef farming sector in Ireland, showcased much of the ongoing research taking place within Teagasc to make beef farming systems more resilient and sustainable. Representatives from multiple projects presented findings, one of which was the BovINE project. 

The project demonstrated various ag- tech solutions that can address farm sustainability issues such as parasite monitoring, screening for lameness in beef cattle, grassland management. Technologies on display included infrared cameras and diagnostic kits for on farm faecal egg counting.

A panel discussion was also held in the main forum marquee where Kevin Kinsella, the BovINE network manager for Ireland facilitated an interesting debate on the use of Ag-tech to improve on farm sustainability. A presentation was given by Professor Virginia Resconi from the University of Zaragoza in Spain on the various technologies being adopted by beef farmers across Europe, which was then followed by a discussion with Sean Coughlan, chief executive of the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) and James Greevy of Herdwatch Ireland. Also taking part were members of Microagritech a startup company specialising in rapid parasite diagnostic kits for use on farm.
