German Livestock Association

BRS - Germany

BRS

The German Livestock Association (BRS) is the umbrella organisation for the production of cattle and pigs in Germany. The task of BRS is to promote German animal breeding and animal husbandry – particularly for the animal species cattle and pig. The aim is to preserve German animal husbandry, to strengthen the competitiveness of the member organisations and to support the sustainable production of high-quality products. BRS sees itself as a mediator of the interests of its members and third parties (society, politics, science and other professional associations) at national and international level.

The BRS will work with FLI to form a national beef network to identify German beef farmers’ priority needs, identify good practices, and facilitate knowledge exchange between farmers and academic experts in Germany and between German and other European farmers trans-nationally. BRS ensure effective dissemination of research results to end-users and to communicate about the project at national and EU level to a range of stakeholders including farmers, industry and policy makers.

Project Staff

TILL MASTHOFF

Till Masthoff. I am a trained farmer and studied agricultural sciences at the University of Osnabrück and Gießen. In 2017 I finished my PhD thesis on Animal Welfare at the University of Giessen and have been working for the German livestock association ever since. There I am involved in projects related to the breeding of dairy cattle and beef cattle.

German cattle breeding is organised on a federal level and is shaped by many local organisations. German cattle farming is very diverse and ranges from very extensive grass-based farming systems to more intensive systems.
