The Research Centre on Animal Production (CRPA), with a turnover of about 5 million € and 50 persons of staff, is a research and consulting organization focused on the improvement of the livestock sector and the related agro-industry by means of research, studies, dissemination and knowledge and technology transfer actions.
Since 1974 CRPA has the objective of developing technical, economic and social progress in the supply chains of livestock products and promoting the spread of the most advanced forms of environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture. Shareholders of CRPA are the local public authorities, the National Farmers’ Unions, producer organizations and single food and technology industries involved in the processing of meat and milk. CRPA has the following research units:
CRPA can rely on a wide and established network of livestock farms, which are part of the production chains and well connected to the food industry.
CRPA leads the Work Package 3 on Socio-Economic Resilience, which has as its main objective the improvement of the economic sustainability of beef cattle farmers in Europe. To this purpose CRPA leads the Working Group on Socio-Economic Resilience, which has at first the task to collect organisational and technological innovations that meet the two challenges that are selected for each year of activity. The Working Group is composed of partners of the project BovINE and a few external advisors. Secondly, the validation of the best practices belongs to the tasks of this working group.
CRPA is together with Unicarve involved in the regional network formation in Italy and contributes to the guidelines and to the tools that are developed for the collection of the innovations, of the grassroots needs and of the transfer of knowledge. As a partner CRPA contributes also to WP6, dedicated to the collection and validation in the field of environmental sustainability.
